Hope IV the Rainbow
Monday, August 28, 2006 / 1:30 PM

What attract Singaporean to donate money?

I guess many will think that it is the attractive prizes given as an incentive to encourage more donation.

This evening, I had a hall event at Toa Payoh HDB Hub. We were doing fund raising for a non profit charitable organisation known as Club Rainbow. We had to sell charity tickets which cost $2 each.

So there was like a big group of us there trying to approach all the strangers that walked past, hoping that they would stop to listen to us introduce the organisation to them.

After a night's of ticket selling, i concluded the following:

1. Chinese males are henpecked. If their wives say no to charity, they will give you the sorry-i-cant-help-cos-my-wife-says-no face.

2. Malays and Indians are more generous.

3. Non-chinese are more willing to stop for a while to listen to what you have to say even though they might not donate.

4. Shop vendors at TP HDB Hub are quite generous. They will buy a few tickets at one go.

5. Lucky draws atract crowds.

6. Toa Payoh is not a good place for fund raising.. Haha..

Shuying's 21st
Sunday, August 27, 2006 / 1:14 AM

Just came back from Shuying's 21st party at Changi!

I went there from NTU and trust me. The journey from Boon Lay to Pasir Ris is no joke! Poor NS men. Some of my friends staying in the extreme west gotta travel like this every week!

And my poor Ysing! Everyday from Jurong East to Pasir Ris, to and fro. Goodness!

Ok. I reached Pasir Ris MRT Station and decided to take a cab to Aloha Changi Chalet. The cab fare was about $6. Cant imagine if I were to take a cab from NTU!!

Shuying's party celebration was just like any 21st bdae which I have been attending these few months. BBQ, buffet, cake cutting and photo taking. What was different would be the location of the chalet. Sea view and it was really a nice place to relax. Good for holiday.

Thanks to Darren, I managed to hitch a ride home from Changi which saved me at least $25 if I were to take a cab. No wonder my clique does not like chalet vacation in the East.

Anyway, Happy 21st Burfdae to ya, ger!

Feeling Happy today.. Completed my Social Context presentation and my lecturer said it was not too bad and the group could get a high B or a low A. *beam*

Just came back from my hall's round island supper. This time round, we did not go together as JCRC or by block. In fact, we went off by OG from the hall FOC. I enjoyed the company from the previous time cos JCRC managed to take some photo at Chinatown which was quite nice. This time round, we went to a few places which we didnt go the previous time.

Tiong Bahru Market and Bedok. Tiong Bahru Market is the place I grew up cos Gran's house was near by and I used to go there every day last time when Mum is free. We used to stay in Redhill so it was quite convenient to travel there. As for Bedok, this is my 1st time there. I didnt eat anything there cos when we were at the second stop which was Geylang, we had Frog porridge. Bloated.

I went with the Blk 22 guys this time but the topic we were chit chatting abt was abt our childhood. TV serial from SBC. Cartoons, games we played. Then we realised that almost everyone will have the Tetris hand held game set in the past! Interesting. Same generation. On the way back hall, the freshie guys also talked abt the same topic and everyone got so high and excited discussing abt their childhood memories..

Suddenly, I feel young again (a little). :)

Volleyball ICG
Wednesday, August 16, 2006 / 3:55 AM

These 2 days have been tiring and hectic for me..

Mentally and physically.

My class took part in the ICG this year for Vball and it almost tear our class (some of us) apart. I am serious and not joking. We played badly and I felt bad too. I think I made a lousy captain..

Apparently one of our classmates had too high expectation on us and some of us just panicked and could not live up to it. I can understand both parties' point of view. Some of our classmates are lack of competitive games exposure. Therefore, when we played with a stronger team, some tend to play badly becos of the unspoken pressure upon us.

I felt extremely low these 2 daes. Not only becos I could not play like I used to (Thanks to my old injury) but also beocs I did not make a good captain. I did not make the call for impt decision. Somehow I felt like puppet.. As much as I tried to organise training session, some just refused to turn up and only showed up on Match Day and asked me to let them play. How can I possibly say no? I just do not want to strain the classmates' relationship. Will anyone listen to my call? Although I can't play the game really well as I have just picked up this Sports not long ago, I feel that I deserve to be asked for comments as a captain. But I guess it will not happen in future games too.. It is more like ppl only look up to u if u are good. I am really disheartened by this.

But I ALWAYs believe that it takes 2 hands to clap. I am at fault too. If I have been more vocal in terms of expressing myself, all the above might not have happened.

It turned out that we let some "undeserving chap" play during one of the set and he was being criticised for his attitude by another classmate. If u wanna come play for the class, pls show some positive attitude.

These Vball ICG has given me many learning pointers. Both good and bad. It also allows me to see some of my classmates differently. Both good and bad too..

As for me, I think I have to keep learning and it is time not to take the back seat and stand up for what I believe it's good and right for the majority. BUt will ppl listen and support? Will see..
