Five years ago...

I learnt to bake cookies for a guy who had a special place in my heart..

On the eve of his bdae, I went to his void deck and waited for him to return home. I was holding a slice of bdae cake waiting to give him a surprise.

It was almost 11.30pm.

I decided to call to ask him when he would be home. He told me that he would be late. He didnt know I was waiting. In the end, I decided to catch the last bus home.. And dumped the cake into the bin. I boarded the bus feeling silly about what I have done.. I told myself that I could always return tomorrow though.

12 hours passed.

I met him again at the open space near his block to pass him the present I had prepared for him. We sat on the bench facing the playground and talked things out.

I expressed my feelings.

He told me he was not ready.

It would be hard to maintain since he would want to concentrate on what he was passionate in.

I said ok.

We went separate ways thereafter.



5 years had passed.

We still keep in contact, spending hours on the phone to talk about everything under the sun..

Accompanied him to buy present for the girl he was going after..

Every year this day, I never fail to either give him a call or send him an sms to wish him Happy Birthday. I would always have some little surprise for him. Either being the very last one to ring at 1159hr or the very 1st one to surprise him at 0000hr..

Of cos he would return the gesture too by remembering my bdae. Last year, I did not receive any message from him. I thought he had forgotten. I should have guessed so. A week later, I received an sms from him. He remembered my bdae but he could not sms me because he was overseas. He told me that he had just touched down in Singapore and immediately smsed me. I was really touched.

This morning when I was on the phone with him, he reminded me that I was leaving for the States and would be spending my bdae 1st time overseas.. I am glad he remembers every year..

I think we both have a special place in each other's heart. I am glad that he has found someone..
